City of Thompson press release, September 9, 2014 – In a press release this morning, Sportsnet revealed the locations of the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour. The City of Thompson is excited to announce that Thompson has been selected as one of the 25 communities to host a hockey festival as part of this year’s NHL season.
The dates for the Thompson event are March 6th – 8th, 2015 with Ron MacLean in Thompson on March 8th to telecast the NHL game in Calgary between the Ottawa Senators and Flames. “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our community and our local hockey history with National coverage,” said Mayor Johnston. Ron MacLean will host a half an hour pre-game show live from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio in Thompson, leading into the NHL game broadcast. Other Sportsnet personalities, will also make appearances during the intermission and post-game show.
Each week during the 2014/15 NHL season, the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will roll into a different community across the country with a weekend of free outdoor hockey festivities for all ages, culminating in an outdoor viewing party of an NHL game broadcast every Sunday, with MacLean hosting live onsite from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio.
“We are a community with a strong connection to hockey,” stated Councillor Hogan, Chair of the Recreation and Community Services Committee. “We are excited that we were selected to host Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour.” Thompson is one of three host communities in Manitoba, with the other two being Selkirk and Brandon.
