Fox Lake Cree Nation cordially invites you and your family to attend our upcoming cultural celebrations from July 11th - 13th in Gillam, MB. With so much activity in Northern Manitoba, Fox Lake has decided to host an event to celebrate Aboriginal culture and traditions with family and friends from all walks of life. This will be a weekend to celebrate our rich heritage and showcase Fox Lake and the Town of Gillam to guests, industry partners and sponsors from across the country.
Fox Lake is buzzing with anticipation as this festival will mark the beginning of Canada's most northern annual Powwow. We are working with various organizations like the Aboriginal School of Dance and Running Deer Resources to ensure that our Powwow will be an event to remember. Touring across North America, the Aboriginal School of Dance is known for their energetic and innovative choreography provoking an intense emotional experience for all ages and cultural backgrounds.
The festivities will begin on Friday with the Grand Entrance followed by the premier performance of the Neemu-Egwah. The Neemu-Egwah is a specially choregraphed performance designed by the Aboriginal School of Dance that depicts how young Aboriginal people express multiculturalism through the art of music and dance. The performance features a multitude of dancers, colourful costumes, self-produced music and inspiring themes. Saturday will feature an all day traditional Powwow with attendees from all over the province participating in several different dance categories. Sunday afternoon will see the conclusion of our festivities with a powerful send-ff for all attendees and performers. On top of these activities, this weekend will be filled with various dances, musical performances, artisans, workshops and food.
The Aboriginal School of Dance will also conduct six interactive workshops where everyone can learn various traditional Aboriginal arts, dances, beading and drum making. With so much to learn, watch and do, there will be something for everyone.
