Northern Manitoba, July 20, 2012 - Tourism North Manitoba and the Thompson and The Pas’ golf clubs have been working hard on a pilot project that will partner the two communities in an effort to promote tourism within northern Manitoba by northern Manitobans. The project is basically a golf passport combined with a grand prize contest. A participant can purchase a passport for $20 from either club and when they golf a round they are given a stamp for their passport. Once they’ve golfed in both Thompson and The Pas they can then enter their passport into the grand prize draw. “We were fortunate to have some key sponsors come on board with some great prizes!” noted Tourism North Coordinator, Charlene Grant. “Calm Air has donated two return airfare tickets anywhere Calm Air flys in Manitoba and Nickel City Motors in Thompson is offering a guided snowmobile trip for two from Thompson to Paint Lake. The idea behind this prize is to offer the visitor a winter season experience and showcase the area’s variety.” The Halcrow Lake Golf & Country Club and Thompson Golf Club have also generously offered a shopping spree in each pro shop. The contest will run the month of August and will be open to anyone wanting to participate. The project is something Tourism North hopes can be built upon in the future, including all northern Manitoba courses. Dennis Fenske, Thompson Golf Club President embraced the project concept in it’s early stages. “This is a really great opportunity for the Club, there is potential to entice people to visit our club, even if it’s their first time golfing. The fun thing about this contest is the newcomer to the sport will have the same opportunity to win a grand prize as the seasoned golfers. It’s all about getting out and enjoying the course and our northern summers.” To book your tee time in northern Manitoba contact:Thompson Golf Club204-778-5537Halcrow Lake Golf & Country Club (The Pas)204-627-2300Phantom Lake Golf Course (Flin Flon)306-688-5555Snow Lake Golf Club204-358-2744Leaf RapidsMB’s most northerly 9-hole free golf course204-473-2436, ext. 5Cranberry PortageGolf 3 holes on the beach!
