Train 693 to hold in Thompson to facilitate track work program, Winnipeg, May 25, 2011 — VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travellers that due to significant track improvement and upgrading work taking place over the summer months by the Hudson Bay Railway (HBR), the track owner, VIA's northbound Winnipeg to Churchill train will be affected. Communities between Thompson and Gillam should take special note of the train’s new departure times. In order to accommodate the summer track improvement program beginning May 27th , VIA’s northbound train 693 will arrive in Thompson every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12 noon and depart at 5:00 p.m. Customers travelling to Churchill can take advantage of the train’s stopover in Thompson to tour the area. The expected new arrival time for Churchill is 09:00 a.m. Customers are advised to visit viarail.ca or call 1-888-VIA RAIL (842-7245) for updates. Listed below is the new schedule for affected communities.Thompson (Depart) 17:00; Pikwitonei 19:02; Ilford 21:36; Gillam (Arrive) 23:00; Gillam (Depart) 23:30; Churchill 09:00.
The HBR has advised that it anticipates other delays during the next 2-3 weeks as the ground thaws and track work progresses. VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience these schedule changes may cause to its passengers.
