Bill Bannock Ice Fishing Derby
The Bill Bannock Fishing Derby is one of the largest in Manitoba. First prize is $25,000 cash & if you catch the tagged fish, Lonesome Mary, you instantly win $25,000. The event is held annually in early April on Clearwater Lake, across from The Pas Airport. The Rotary Club of The Pas organizes the event & all proceeds go to charity. New in recent years, Bill Bannock teams up with the Flinty Ice Fishing Derby to offer combination prizes for contestants who purchase tickets for both events. Ticket can be bought through or 

Churchill Aurora Winterfest

The Aurora Winterfest marks the end of the Hudson Bay Quest and the community welcomes racers to their final destination.  Kids hitch up the family dog for mutt races during Aurora Winterfest.  King and Queen Trapper competitions celebrate the fur trade era and along with Aboriginal drumming and square dancing, participants can try their hand at snow sculpting or igloo building.

Cross Lake Annual Campout
Hosted by the Mayor & Council of this newly incorporated community, this event is a week-long celebration of fun, family, heritage and culture.  Hundreds of campers bring their own camping gear and set up on the shores of Sand Bay.

Cross Lake Annual Winter Festival
This event is a week-long celebration includes traditional and non-traditional events (King and Queen Trapper, jigging, bannock making & tea boiling, dog sled races, snowshoe races, volleyball, texas hold em to name just a few).  Held annually near the end of February.

Cross Lake Annual Treaty and Indian Days
Held annually near end of July with events like the 3-lap canvas canoe marathon, York boat races, canoe races, children’s events and races, marathon and foot races, voyageur race.  Visit for more information. 

Flin Flon Trout Festival
Taking place annually in Flon Flon, the Trout Festival has everything includng parade, fireworks, fish fry, Main Street Days (midway, food booths, show & shine), scavenger hunt, childrens events and more!  Visit for more information. 

Fox Lake Cultural Festival 
Cultural Workshops, Traditional Pow Wow, Live Performances, Food & Craft Vendors.  Takes place annually (July) in Gillam, MB.  Free admission and everyone is welcome. 

Gillam Annual Winter Carnival
Held annually in March, this marks the beginning of the 400 km Hudson Bay Quest dog sled race. Carnival includes: Ice Worm Competition, Cribbage Tournament, Pizza & Pool Tournament, Jig Fest, Family Sponge Hockey Tournament and so much more!  Visit for more information.

Hudson Bay Quest
A 330-km dog sled race linking Churchill, Manitoba with Arviat, Nunavut. This self-sufficient dog sledding adventure is a traditional race built on the history of the fur trade, The Hudson’s Bay Company and the early days of Churchill, Manitoba. Location: Churchill.

National King Miner Contest
The USW Local 6166 “National King Miner Contest” is held annually, in conjunction with Nickel Days, on the third weekend in June.  The competition consists of 11 mining related events.

Northern Manitoba Trapper's Festival

The Trappers' Festival, held in The Pas during the third weekend of February annually, retains the flavour and celebrations of a diverse cultural heritage - the Northern Pioneer.  The skills and entertainments enjoyed by the pioneers are brought to life in a week of events designed to generate sincere and genuine hospitality and friendship endemic to the North.  The atmosphere of excitement, thrills and enthusiasm is experienced by competitor, participant and spectator alike.

MacLean Park Canada Day Celebration
The City of Thompson hosts a robust concert season spanning the full calendar year in addition to planning annual events such as Canada Day celebrations in MacLean Park. This popular event showcases cultural performances (Folklorama), children's activities, ethnic foods and a dynamic fireworks display.

Mescanaganeek Winter Festival
Held annually in Feburary in Wabowden, contact the Recreation Department for more information.  

Munn Cup Hockey Tournament
Hundreds of players take part in this tournament that is over 40 years strong.  Takes place in Thompson each spring. 

Pride North of 55
Northern Manitoba's premiere Pride event takes place in Thompson annually in June.  Dance Party, Drag Show, GLOW Youth Dance Party, Mini Festival, live music, sweat lodge, LGBT awareness workshops and more!  Visit for information. 

Sasquatch Ice Fishing Derby
Held annual in Norway House, organized by the First Nation this winter fishing derby has BIG cash prizes (typically $10,000 for first place!) and features a Lil'Sasquatch Fishing Derby to get youngster involved. 

The Opaskwayak Indian Days
Held every third week in August to celebrate the Cree traditions and culture, Indian Days offers great events such as the Canoe Classic, the Indian Princess Pageant, Traditional Events, Call of the Wild Night, 55+ and 65+ Events, Teen Dances, Scavenger Hunt, Poker Derby, Dry Socials, Family Fun Night, Volleyball Tournament, Tootsie Contest, the Tightest Jeans Contest, childrens events daily, Relay Races and Long Distance Races. Something for everyone!

Thompson Nickel Days
Nickel Days are held annually on the third weekend of June and include a midway, the National King Miner Contest, a parade, professional stage shows, and other special events.  Visit for more information. 

Thompson Winterfest

A winter celebration of events and competition for trappers, dog sledders and spectators. This Northern Manitoba children and family's festival is constantly growing and ever changing to better entertain the residents of Thompson and surrounding communities. Some events include performances on the snowstage, snow maze, Jam Pail Curling, fireworks, bonfire, Youth road hockey tournament, tobogganing, bouncy house, face painting, live music, skating, jigging contest, sleigh rides, pancake breakfast and much more! Treaty & York Boat Days
Norway House Cree Nation invites you to take part in cultural events, family events, see the biggest country talent showcase in Manitoba, our World Championship of York Boat Rowing, the Voyageur Canoe Races and much more. This week-long event brings many families and friends together through friendly competition.

Thompson National Aboriginal Day Celebrations

Canada Day Bay Dip
An annual relay race that often competes with a little ice!  Brave ones take the plunge into the icy Hudson's Bay.  Takes places on July 1st annually in Churchill.  

Parks Day - A Day at The Fort 
Come and enjoy a morning of activities, history and fun at Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site in Churchill, Free boat transportation to the fort is provided. 

Gillam Haunted Hallway!
Over 2,000 square feet of the Gillam Rec Centre is converted into a haunting space and is open to the public the three nights leading up to and including Halloween.  Admission is free of charge but donations are accepted.  Visit for more information.
