NELSON HOUSE FACTS:
The community of Nelson House became incorporated April 1, 2004 and is 1 of only 3 communities in Manitoba that have become incorporated under the Northern Affairs Act.
Nelson House was awarded the 2010 Manitoba Tourism Award in the Product Development category for their annual fishing derby. This was the first time ever that an Aboriginal community received the award. The community of less than 100 people was proud to host over 1,000 people at the 2011 fishing derby.
The derby embraces life in the north and celebrates it. This event provides an annual social outing for northerners of all ages while recognizing some important assets - ice, snow, fish and of course northern hospitality.
